FORMATIVE PRUNING

Pro-active pruning of branches to shape the tree.

The main purpose of formative pruning is to produce a tree which in maturity will be free from any major physical weaknesses and/or defects, whilst having developed a suitable and strong branch structure, sturdy taper in the stem and a generally desired pattern of growth.

DEADWOOD REMOVAL

Removal of dead branches that will degrade and eventually fall.

Dead branches can pose an unacceptable risk to people or property in certain circumstances and therefore can be carefully shortened or fully removed, to prevent a risk of injury as well as improving the aesthetics of the tree.

EPICORMIC GROWTH REMOVAL

Removal of bud growth along the length of the trunk.

Due to environmental stresses trees can respond by initiating branch/bud or shoot growth on a mature woody stem or branch. Some species are more prone than others, however for aesthetical reasons these can be removed, if causing an obstruction or interfere with its surroundings.

COMPLETE TREE FELLING

The removal of a tree as a single unit and in one piece by cutting from ground level.

This method is only suitable in situations, which pose no risk of damage to any property, people or protected species. Once on the ground, the tree is de-limbed and crosscut for removal off site, unless otherwise specified by the customer.

SECTION FELLING

The removal of a tree in sections.

This task is carried out by a qualified climber, using a rope and harness system to avoid risk of damage to the structures located in the tree’s drop zone. A cherry picker is often used for tree removal in situations where confined spaces are present, or the tree’s integrity is compromised through the presence of decay.

CROWN THINNING

Removal of selected secondary branches producing a balanced crown structure.

The technique allows for improved light penetration through reducing the overall density and reduction to the sail area. Thinning generally doesn’t reduce the size/dimensions of the crown, however removing branches back to the trunk allows for the wind to pass through more freely.

CROWN LIFTING

The removal of lower branches to achieve a stated vertical clearance above the ground level.

Predominantly carried out if the branches are causing obstruction to pedestrians, vehicles or street furniture. Crown lifting should preferably not result in the removal of more than 15% of the live crown height.

CROWN REDUCTION

An overall reduction in the height and/or spread of the tree crown through shortening of the branches.

Particularly effective to allow more light into the area as well as to reduce the tree’s size especially if in close proximity to buildings and other objects.

MULCH / WOODCHIP

Woodchip, a by-product of our tree surgery activities, suppresses the weed growth and assists water retention in the gardens, whilst providing an ideal surface coverage to paths, flower beds or muddy tracks. As an inexpensive alternative to other materials, it also has an added benefit of decomposing naturally thus improving the soil structure and helping plant growth.
